Work with us
We rely on a strong network of professionals to deliver lifesaving medical aid.
For over two years, large parts of Sudan have been experiencing ongoing violence, including intense urban warfare, gunfire, shelling, and airstrikes. The health system, already fragile before the conflict started, is struggling to cope with existing and emerging medical needs while facing overwhelming pressure from the destruction and looting of health facilities, acute shortages of utilities and medical supplies, and under-resourced, unpaid, and overworked personnel.
As a result, people face significant challenges accessing medical care throughout the country, driving what has now become the world’s largest displacement crisis.
Donate now to help people in Sudan
The war in Sudan has forced nearly 12 million people, about 1 in 5 Sudanese, to flee their homes since it started in April 2023. The majority are internally displaced within Sudan, but more than 4 million have fled the country to neighboring countries like Chad and South Sudan. Many of those displaced are sheltering in crowded camps established in the aftermath of the 2003 Darfur crisis, with no roof over their heads to protect them from the rain and scorching summer heat. Others live in abandoned buildings or makeshift camps where conditions are dire.
Our teams are working in 11 of Sudan's 18 states, providing urgently needed medical care and basic services to people. For nearly 50 years, MSF has been at the forefront of major crises in Sudan, including disease outbreaks and periods of severe malnutrition. We continue to support communities affected by ongoing conflict through humanitarian and healthcare activities in eight states. Throughout 2024, MSF delivered medical and humanitarian assistance across many of the country’s conflict-ravaged states. After Al Fasher’ attack, and while neither MSF, nor any other international humanitarian organisation, has been able to reach El Fasher, our teams continue to try to identify survivors in need of medical assistance in various locations. We increased our capacity in Tawila, 60 km away from Al Fasher, to respond to people’s growing needs. Our teams have built a health post at the entrance to Tawila Umda, one of the main arrival points for displaced people from El Fasher. There, we provide injury dressings and outpatient services, stabilise critical cases, and arrange referrals with ambulances to the hospital for patients with the most severe conditions. MSF has also identified an urgent need for mental health care, which will be a priority for our teams in the coming weeks. MSF teams are also beginning an intervention to restore and increase healthcare access in Kornoi, North Darfur, near the border with Chad, as well as in Tine, Chad.
